Nachos in a Jar? That’s the Spirit

“Nachos in a mason jar? Genius or just snack hoarding?”

On National Mason Jar Day, we’re celebrating the iconic jar by ignoring its intended purpose entirely. While everyone else is pickling vegetables or making cute crafts, we’ve got nachos to store for a few minutes. Because if you’re not layering chips and cheese in a jar, what are you even doing with your life?

Philadelphia’s own John Landis Mason probably didn’t imagine his jar would one day cradle nachos, but here we are. Invented in 1858, the mason jar has been saving leftovers and keeping millennials busy with DIY projects for over a century. So, in honor of his game-changing invention, we’re introducing Mason Jar Nachos—the snack that proves nachos don’t need a plate to be amazing.

Start with a sturdy base of crushed tortilla chips, followed by a gooey layer of melted queso. Add in black beans, shredded chicken, guacamole, and salsa, repeating layers until the jar is bursting with flavor. Top it all off with sour cream, jalapeños, and maybe a dollop of existential dread about why you’re layering nachos in a jar.

Are these nachos portable? Sure. Are they practical? Debatable. But they’re fun, customizable, and a great way to enjoy your snack while pondering whether John Mason ever imagined his jars being filled with cheesy, guac-covered greatness.

So, this National Mason Jar Day, skip the pickles and opt for nachos. Just don’t try to preserve them—nachos are for eating, not saving.
