Do You Really Choose the Nachos?
“Do you choose the nachos, or do the nachos choose you?”
It’s World Philosophy Day, so naturally, we’re tackling one of humanity’s greatest debates: Does free will exist? And what better way to explore this existential quandary than through nachos?
Imagine you’re sitting in front of a towering plate of cheesy goodness. You reach for a chip. Was that your decision? Or was it the jalapeño, staring at you with its fiery gaze, daring you to take the risk? Did the gooey cheese glistening under the light dictate your actions? Or was it your inner voice, screaming, “Guac is extra, but I deserve it”?
Some philosophers argue that all choices are illusions, predetermined by past events, biology, and environment. By this logic, every nacho you’ve ever consumed was written into the universe’s script long before you were born. That soggy chip you regretted grabbing? Destiny. The perfectly balanced chip with the ideal ratio of toppings? Fate. Free will? As fake as canned nacho cheese.
But here’s the twist: even if your choices are preordained, who’s to say the nachos weren’t sentient all along, orchestrating the whole thing? Maybe the nachos made themselves irresistibly delicious to lure you into their grand cosmic plan—a plan that ends with you gazing into the void of an empty plate, questioning all your life choices.
Let’s face it: the nachos were pulling the strings—those gooey, irresistible cheese strings—all along.
So, on this World Philosophy Day, grab a nacho, ponder your existence, and remember: the nachos always win.
