The Regift
I’ve always believed nachos are a gift — messy, fleeting, and best enjoyed before you realize what’s happening. But today is National Regifting Day, which got me wondering: can you regift nachos?
Technically, yes. You can scrape them into a new container, reheat them, even rearrange the toppings so it looks intentional. Maybe add a new layer of cheese to disguise the truth. Present them proudly to a friend with a wink and a “made these just for you.” It’s the thought that counts.
But something happens when you try. The chips get soft. The beans harden. The soul leaves the platter. What was once a moment of communal joy becomes an act of quiet deception. You can reheat the cheese, but not the magic.
I was still thinking about this as I stared at the leftovers, trying to decide if generosity or laziness would win. And somewhere in the middle of that thought, I ate them. All of them.
Turns out the real regift was indigestion. I planned to pay it forward. Instead, I paid for it later.
